East Village began with trips to far-flung places where I discovered beautiful fabrics and embroideries in village markets.
Our collections draw on the beauty of Eastern textile traditions. The silk we use is harvested from silk worms before being spun and woven on looms in the traditional way. After the silk has been woven it is hand-dyed and hung out to dry in the sun before it is sent by motorbike to a small workshop where the pieces are cut and sent to a village in Vietnam to be hand-embroidered. The cotton pieces are hand-made using traditional Indonesian embroidery techniques and take days to complete. Our embroidery designs are drawn freehand, so each piece is unique.
Our aim is to create garments that have a story, that embrace age old textile traditions, and support the people who make them.
